Augmenting Human Intellect: A Conceptual Framework
Douglas Engelbart's 1962 framework proposes a systematic approach to enhancing human intellectual effectiveness through the integration of humans with technological tools. The report introduces the H-LAM/T system (Human using Language, Artifacts, Methodology, in which he is Trained) as the fundamental unit of intellectual work, arguing that human effectiveness depends on an integrated system rather than isolated ability. This foundational document laid the groundwork for personal computing, the mouse, hypertext, and collaborative software.
